Hello Darling Kathryn!
Just back from Little Shuswap/Naramata yesterday afternoon so didn't even have time to read your message until this morning. I'd like to sign-up. However, if no space left. no big deal. Thanks. Cheers, Patrizzio!
P, thanks for your call, lastereve. I look forward to hearing of your adventures.
I wont be riding today -- I play a match at 12:30 and will ride there, rain or shine.
Hopefully we get a break in the weather tomorrow.
Memo to self:I have a
copy of Blood here for you when you get thru the Ellroy. Let me know
when you are ready and I will deliver.
We will talk later. W

Update on Paul:
Monday was eventful in good ways. First shower in 6 days! It is amazing how the mundane can assume major implications under these circumstances.
Moved to the Cardio Surgery ward in the afternoon - 10th floor of the Centennial Pavillion. Great view of mountains, the downtown and English Bay. Private room and excellent radio reception which means that CBC Radio 1 can now resume it's important role in keeping my blood pressure up.
Latest word is that the mitral valve replacement assembly line will be operational on Friday. Onward.....Paul
Hi Paul!
Just back from Little Shuswap/Naramata yesterday afternoon so didn't even have time to read your message until this morning. Very, very pleased to learn that you are "stable" in the Cardio Ward at VGH and that surgical wheels have been set in motion, sooner than later, to deal with the mitral valve heart problem.
We certainly missed you at VWF. Jo Nesbø, Will Self and Margaret Atwood were scintillatingly phenomenal, to mention but three from the exciting array of authors.
As I mentioned above, we drove up to Little Shuswap this past Friday to spend two nights with our close friends, Ruth/Rick Toews, at their most comfortable cabin, across the lake from Chase. Even had snow flurries on Saturday so that the surrounding hills received a fairly heavy dusting. R/R have never experienced snow this early there. Nevertheless, we were warm and cosy. The Bowmore, 15 year old, Laimrig, 54.4% and the Tullibardine Sovereign, Bourbon Cask, 43%, helped to keep the chill at bay! I'm saving the Laphroaig PX Cask to toast your speedy recovery!
On to Naramata for a whirlwind round of wine tasting on Sunday afternoon. We were in Summerland by 3:00 pm but 8th Generation was closed so on to The Bench. Stopped at Misconduct, then Poplar Grove then La Frenz but winery was closed so we stopped at D'Angelo, a spot we'd not visited before, and then on to Hillside. It had been so quiet, as far as visitors were concerned that the woman in the Tasting Room had closed the doors 15 minutes early. We pounded on the door insistently and loudly enough for her to unbar the front entrance so she was forced to leave off balancing the day's receipts! (We could see her through a small window!) However, she was most congenial and we so we enjoyed a pleasant enough tasting in spite of the fact that the reds were abominable. Not unduly upset however as we were on a "white" mission.
Had arranged to spend the night with Lynne and Peter Lighthall so knocked on their door just after 5:30 pm. Lovely to see them again as last time was in June when they stopped over, en route to VI, for a wedding. Lovely, lovely evening with three-handed bridge, (Lynne is not at all interested in game!), in front the fireplace after the wonderful dinner and fantastic local artisan cheese plate for dessert.
Enjoyed the extra hour to sleep-in next morning and after breakfast we took Hope Princeton back to Vancouver. More snow here that further north although none on highway which was clear and dry. Little traffic so we motored along quite nicely. Stopped in Keremeos for some fruit and vegetables but other than that it was smooth sailing all the way home. Not sure if new and improved Port Mann Bridge has changed things, (Hope so!), but we beat rush hour and were home by shortly after 3:00 pm. Even had time for a quick jaunt around Stanley Park after we'd unloaded car.
Stats for ride. This will allow you to travel vicariously, from your hospital room to the world beyond!

Obviously, you won't be joining us for dinner on Saturday. Joan, of course, is more than welcome to come if events allow and she would like to do so. Will give you both a call later today just to say hello and see where things stand. Trust you are feeling somewhat comfortable and that everything, (tests, surgery schedule, etc.), is going as smoothly as possible, given circumstances. All the best, Paolo. Fondestos and Cheers, Patrizzio!
